To think there are thousands of people living in Arizona without access to basic plumbing and clean, running water is unimaginable. But that is precisely the case for the Navajo Nation, located in parts of Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah.
In 2019 Jeff Poynter was optimistic that the project fits well with Four Peaks Rotary’s vision. “We’re a club that wants to help as many people as possible. This is a tremendous opportunity for Four Peaks Rotary to step up and really make a difference in many lives.” With that said, Four Peaks Rotary accomplished a $400,000 Global Grant which is equivilant to approximately 85 homes on the reservation.

DigDeep was able to install nine home water systems to Navajo families in Dilkon before the pandemic brought the project to a halt. Dilkon is a town on the Navajo Nation located in Northeastern Arizona. Below, Rotarian Project Champion, Paul Perreault and 2022-2023 President Todd Harris on location with the DigDeep team. How it all began, one thought, one idea, Rotarians of Action.....
Four Peaks Rotary learned at the Club’s June 13, 2019 meeting of a Rotary International project that provides construction of individual water systems for Navajo homes. Solar panels and electrical connections are included for families that do not have electrical service, as well.
Guided by Rotary project director Jim Bissonet at the June 13 meeting, Four Peaks heard how the Club can get involved in helping the Navajo Nation with their water needs. According to President-elect Jeff Poynter, the Club will have an opportunity to vote on receiving a Rotary Global Grant that would allow Four Peaks Rotary to work hand-in-hand with Rotary International in solving the water crisis with the Navajo Nation.

The Club made an official announcement at the next week meeting of their partnership with Rotary International and the Navajo Nation.

President Jeff Poynter (2019/20) passed away in December of 2020 and would have been thrilled for the Four Peaks Rotary club and the Fountain Hills Community support, the Navajo Nation families and the Rotary International with the contributed success of this projects throughout the years! Thanks to Paul Perreault stepping up on behalf of Poynter and the club officially finalized their portion of the project in 2022/23.
