June 2025, the Four Peaks Rotary Club is proud to announce the launch of our Garden Refresh Project at McDowell Mountain Elementary School. Originally established through the efforts of the Noon Kiwanis Club, this beloved school garden is now receiving a thoughtful makeover, thanks to a partnership of local organizations, businesses, and dedicated volunteers who believe in the power of outdoor education.

The project is led by Rotarian Co-Chairs Debbie Romano and Paul Janis, whose leadership is bringing this space to life once again. Other Rotarians participating in this community project; Frank Colella, Daniel Weiner, Jerry Holtzman, Julie Ewald, Todd Harris and Frank Robinson.

Starting in June, the refresh project will unfold throughout the summer, bringing new life and energy to the garden space just in time for students’ return in the fall. By late autumn, little sprouts will begin to emerge — the first signs of a thriving learning garden once again full of promise.

Our goal is to transform the area into a dynamic outdoor classroom that inspires curiosity and cultivates a love for nature, science, and sustainability. The updated garden will feature:

  • Interactive Learning Zones

  • Pollinator-Friendly Planting Areas

  • Student-Friendly Walking Paths

  • Engaging Educational Signage

  • New Raised Garden Beds

  • Shaded Seating and Gathering Spots

This refresh is more than just a beautification effort — it's a long-term investment in our youth, our environment, and our community. With the help of community partners, including the Noon Kiwanis (original garden creators, Fountain Hills Community Garden, Sonoran Conservancy TrailBlazers, and members of the Four Peaks Rotary Club, we are building something that nurtures both minds and hearts.

Stay tuned as we share progress updates and invite community members to get involved. From planting to painting to planning new enhancements, there’s more to come as we grow an interactive, hands-on garden experience for the students who matter most — our future.

Let’s grow together, Fountain Hills!
