Each year on Memorial Day, a proud and stirring transformation takes place in the heart of Fountain Hills, Arizona. Under brilliant blue skies, the Four Peaks Rotary Club leads a powerful tradition—the Annual Memorial Day Flag Installation at Fountain Park from 6:00am-6:00pm.  The project started back in the club early years with the vision of our late Bill Bemish.  Rotarian Paul Perreault leads the way continuing this wonderful tradition for our club and community.  Thank you to all who participate!

At the break of dawn, Rotarians, friends, and community volunteers gather together with purpose and pride, ready to install 4,000 American flags throughout the park and community. Flags line the perimeter of the Fountain Lake, wave proudly down the Avenue of the Fountains, and circle the iconic roundabout—turning the town into a sea of red, white, and blue.

"It's not just about the flags,” says President Jeff Stack, “It’s about the message they send. Each flag is a symbol of remembrance and unity. We do this to honor them—and to bring our community together.”

With sleeves rolled up and hearts full of gratitude, teams of volunteers work side-by-side—pounding stakes, unfurling flags, and standing them tall in honor of the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

While the meaning behind the day is solemn, the atmosphere is full of energy, camaraderie, and spirit. Laughter and music fill the air. Coffee, donuts, and shared stories fuel the volunteers. Veterans walking the route are often met with grateful applause and quiet moments of connection.

By 6:45am Fountain Park and the heart of the town have been transformed into a breathtaking patriotic tribute—4,000 flags rippling in the Arizona breeze, reflected in the still waters of the lake and in the hearts of all who pass by.

This is Memorial Day in Fountain Hills—an inspiring, collective act of remembrance, made possible by the Four Peaks Rotary Club and a community that continues to lead with Service Above Self.
