Sixty members and guests of Four Peaks Rotary club attended the inaugural Four Peaks Rotary “Race for the Roses”, which netted $3,800 in support of Ukrainian refugees. The member social event was held on May 7 at the Taphouse.

The proceeds will be added to contributions from other Rotary clubs around the world to provide grants of up to $50,000 each through the Rotary Foundation’s Disaster Response Fund to the Rotary district in Ukraine and designated Rotary districts that border Ukraine. These expedited disaster response grants will be used to provide relief to refugees or other victims of the crisis including items such as water, food, shelter, medicine, and clothing.

Steelcrest Architectural Accents created six steel cutouts of Derby horses, which were mounted on pedestals and auctioned off at the April 28 meeting. Winning bidders created stable names and decorated their horses for the race on May 7. Designated jockeys moved the horses along the track according to the throw of a die to determine the race winner. Lovable Lightening of Fancy Pants Stables, owned by Pam Carlson, crossed the finish line first.

“It was a remarkable day,” she said. “It was so lovely to see everybody get dressed up and bring their families. What an incredible way to celebrate club memberships and benefit our Ukrainian brothers and sisters at the same time.”
