Interactors complete "Operation Jump Rope Project"
Excellent work to all involved on this super FUN project for a SUPERB cause!
At their November meeting the Fountain Hills Community Interactors complete "Operation Jump Rope Project." The project concluded with making 45 jump ropes to help international program. The handmade jump ropes will be provided to Samaritan’s Purse, which will help send gift-filled Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes to children in need around the world. Thank you to Michelle Carney, Interact Supervisor and Boys and Girls Club, McKee Branch representative, Eddie Delgado – Teen Development Specialist for their direction supporting the members.
Using recycled t-shirts for jump ropes is such a creative and sustainable idea. It’s great that you all incorporated the 4-Way Test to ensure quality and purpose. I'm sure these unique, handmade jump ropes will bring joy to others!
Interactors conclude the Rotary Year for the Summer Break. Awesome first year Interactors! Looking forward to a fantastic next year starting August 1st!
May 2nd concluded the first year of the FH Community Interact Club for summer break. Official meetings will begin again on August 1, 2024. Also, new year elections will take place at the October meeting.
Today's meeting was an overview of the year accomplishments from projects to conferences. President Elena and Projects Chair, Autumn provided an overview of potential community projects and international projects. Members were asked to think about next year action plans.
Everyone is looking forward to the new year at the Boys and Girls Club - McKee Branch. Including attending the club with Teen Coordinator, Eddie! A Fun day at the club with a tour of the building and outdoors.

The Power of Service
Welcome to Interact District 5495, where our Interact name (a combination of “International” and “Action”) aptly describes our dynamic and rapidly growing group of more than 80 Arizona high school and middle school service clubs, each sponsored by a Rotary Club, with an international dimension.
Our clubs are both campus-based and community-based, offering leadership development and service opportunities to all youth ages 12-18, without regard to gender, creed or color. Like Rotary, our motto is “Service Above Self.”

Interact Purpose and Goals
The purpose of Interact is to:
Take action, build international understanding, and make new friends around the world.
Interact clubs bring together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. Find out how serious leadership can be seriously fun.
Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill. Through these efforts, Interactors develop a network of friendships with local and overseas clubs and learn the importance of - Developing leadership skills and personal integrity - Demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others - Understanding the value of individual responsibility and hard work - Advancing international understanding and goodwill.
As one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service, with more than 14,911 clubs in 145 countries and geographical areas, Interact has become a worldwide phenomenon. Almost 342,953 young people are involved in Interact.
The purpose of Interact is to provide opportunity for young people to work together in a world fellowship dedicated to service and international understanding.
The goals of Interact are:
1. To recognize and develop constructive leadership and personal integrity.
2. To encourage and practice thoughtfulness of and helpfulness to others.
3. To create an awareness of the importance of home and family.
4. To build respect for the rights of others, based on recognition of the worth of each individual.
5. To emphasize acceptance of individual responsibility as the basis of personal success, community improvement, and group achievement.
6. To develop life skills including self development, time management, and personal finances.
7. To recognize the dignity and value of all useful occupations as opportunities to serve society.
8. To provide opportunities for gaining increased knowledge and understanding of community, national, and world affairs.
9. To open avenues of personal and group action leading to the advancement of international understanding and goodwill
toward all peoples

Through service activities, Interactors learn the importance of developing leadership skills and personal integrity, demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others, and advancing international understanding and goodwill.

Interact is one of three Rotary-sponsored Youth Services programs: the others are our annual leadership Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) camps and our Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE).
Interact District 5495 proudly partners with the Rotaract and Interact Clubs in Kenya and in Central Mexico as our international partners. Our district also works closely with Interact District 5500, covering the southern third of the State of Arizona.
Our International Project
Interact District 5495’s signature international service project is our Interact Crutches 4 Africa Project — in partnership with the Rotarian Crutches 4 Africa nonprofit organization.
Our Interact clubs throughout the state each year work together to collect more than 3,500 crutches, walkers, wheelchairs and other mobility devices that we wrap for shipment at our Interact District Conference in February, and then ship them in a 40-ft shipping container to our International partners in Kenya for distribution there to those most in need of these mobility devices in the Rift Valley of Kenya.
For the past five years our Interact district has sent a team of our top Interactors as Arizona Interact Ambassadors to Kenya for two weeks in July. This year we hoping to send another ambassadors team to Central Mexico which debuted in 2021 despite being canceled in 2022.
We are also seeking to raise $50,000 to cover the shipping costs for the containers, along with the airfare and other distribution expenses associated with once again sending our Ambassadors Teams to these countries in July 2023 to help distribute these mobility devices and provide other services, working with our partners in these countries.

Interact clubs organize at least two projects every year, one that helps their school or community and one that promotes international understanding. Rotary club sponsors mentor and guide Interactors as they carry out projects and develop leadership skills.
